10 reasons why you have to DELETE your FACEBOOK

After some reflection, I've decided to delete my account on Facebook. I'd like to encourage you to do the same. This is part altruism and part selfish. The altruism part is that I think Facebook, as a company, is unethical. The selfish part is that I'd like my own social network to migrate away from Facebook so that I'm not missing anything. In any event, here's my "Top Ten" reasons for why you should join me and many others and delete your account.
10. Facebook's Terms Of Service are completely one-sided. Let's start with the basics. Facebook's Terms Of Service state that not only do they own your data (section 2.1), but if you don't keep it up to date and accurate (section 4.6), they can terminate your account (section 14). You could argue that the terms are just protecting Facebook's interests, and are not in practice enforced, but in the context of their other activities, this defense is pretty weak. As you'll see, there's no reason to give them the benefit of the doubt. Essentially, they see their customers as unpaid employees for crowd-sourcing ad-targeting data.
9. Facebook's CEO has a documented history of unethical behavior. From the very beginning of Facebook's existence, there are questions about Zuckerberg's ethics. According to BusinessInsider.com, he used Facebook user data to guess email passwords and read personal email in order to discredit his rivals. These allegations, albeit unproven and somewhat dated, nonetheless raise troubling questions about the ethics of the CEO of the world's largest social network. They're particularly compelling given that Facebook chose to fork over $65M to settle a related lawsuit alleging that Zuckerberg had actually stolen the idea for Facebook.
8. Facebook has flat out declared war on privacy. Founder and CEO of Facebook, in defense of Facebook's privacy changes last January: "People have really gotten comfortable not only sharing more information and different kinds, but more openly and with more people. That social norm is just something that has evolved over time." More recently, in introducing the Open Graph API: "... the default is now social." Essentially, this means Facebook not only wants to know everything about you, and own that data, but to make it available to everybody. Which would not, by itself, necessarily be unethical, except that ...
7. Facebook is pulling a classic bait-and-switch. At the same time that they're telling developers how to access your data with new APIs, they are relatively quiet about explaining the implications of that to members. What this amounts to is a bait-and-switch. Facebook gets you to share information that you might not otherwise share, and then they make it publicly available. Since they are in the business of monetizing information about you for advertising purposes, this amounts to tricking their users into giving advertisers information about themselves. This is why Facebook is so much worse than Twitter in this regard: Twitter has made only the simplest (and thus, more credible) privacy claims and their customers know up front that all their tweets are public. It's also why the FTC is getting involved, and people are suing them (and winning).

Their real agenda is pretty clear: they don't want their membership to know how much data is really available. It's one thing to talk to developers about how great all this sharing is going to be; quite another to actually see what that means in the form of files anyone can download and load into MatLab.

Which means now you're not only trusting Facebook, but the application developers, too, many of whom are too small to worry much about keeping your data secure. And some of whom might be even more ethically challenged than Facebook. Coupled with the OpenGraph API, you are no longer trusting Facebook, but the Facebook ecosystem.

For example, their recent introduction of their "Like" button makes it rather easy for spammers to gain access to my feed and spam my social network. Or how about this gem for harvesting profile data? These are just the latest of a series of Keystone Kops mistakes, such as accidentally making users' profiles completely public, or the cross-site scripting hole that took them over two weeks to fix. They either don't care too much about your privacy or don't really have very good engineers, or perhaps both.

It's one thing to make data public or even mislead users about doing so; but where I really draw the line is that, once you decide you've had enough, it's pretty tricky to really delete your account. They make no promises about deleting your data and every application you've used may keep it as well. On top of that, account deletion is incredibly (and intentionally) confusing. When you go to your account settings, you're given an option to deactivate your account, which turns out not to be the same thing as deleting it. Deactivating means you can still be tagged in photos and be spammed by Facebook (you actually have to opt out of getting emails as part of the deactivation, an incredibly easy detail to overlook, since you think you're deleting your account). Finally, the moment you log back in, you're back like nothing ever happened! In fact, it's really not much different from not logging in for awhile. To actually delete your account, you have to find a link buried in the on-line help (by "buried" I mean it takes five clicks to get there). Or you can just click here. Basically, Facebook is trying to trick their users into allowing them to keep their data even after they've "deleted" their account.

It's bad enough that the idea here is that we all pitch in and make it easier than ever to help Facebook collect more data about you. It's bad enough that most consumers will have no idea that this data is basically public. It's bad enough that they claim to own this data and are aiming to be the one source for accessing it. But then they are disingenuous enough to call it "open," when, in fact, it is completely proprietary to Facebook. You can't use this feature unless you're on Facebook. A truly open implementation would work with whichever social network we prefer, and it would look something like OpenLike. Similarly, they implement just enough of OpenID to claim they support it, while aggressively promoting a proprietary alternative, Facebook Connect.

While Twitter isn't the most usable thing in the world, at least they've tried to stay focused and aren't trying to be everything to everyone.
I often hear people talking about Facebook as though they were some sort of monopoly or public trust. Well, they aren't. They owe us nothing. They can do whatever they want, within the bounds of the laws. (And keep in mind, even those criteria are pretty murky when it comes to social networking.) But that doesn't mean we have to actually put up with them. Furthermore, their long-term success is by no means guaranteed - have we all forgotten MySpace? Oh, right, we have. Regardless of the hype, the fact remains that Sergei Brin or Bill Gates or Warren Buffett could personally acquire a majority stake in Facebook without even straining their bank account. And Facebook's revenue remains more or less a rounding error for more established tech companies.
While social networking is a fun new application category enjoying remarkable growth, Facebook isn't the only game in town. I don't like their application nor how they do business and so I've made my choice to use other providers. And so can you.

Happy Bokeh and Bountiful wednesday!
Okay although my bokeh post won't be later in the evening..am wishing you all a bountiful hump wednesday! hee hee.

It's even another miracle that I took my camera out and found myself some time to take a photo of my food and upload it!

I went home around 8 pm yesterday. Our director (my boss) called me to join them in his office for the Staff meeting and told everyone of how he highly commended me for a job well done for only a couple of days. Much said, I guess the Ambulatory Surgery Clinic liked me then. LOL.
I'm praying that I would do good even more in the future and I will have to keep my job till whatever...lol.

My post2009 posting
Well, since my langga^ is only staying for a couple of weeks (almost) I just want to spend those times only in pure, quality time. And since I also have a temp gig with the American Museum of National History as a facilitator for the past 3 months and two days working for Harlequin Publishing Co. as a receptionist made my spending-quality-time with him a little bit shorter than usual.
I'm missing him terribly, our room is not complete without him.
And so am posting this...(i hope he's not gonna get mad at me! hrhrrhhr)
you see, i can't take my eyes off my Junebug, because not only he has gorgeous eyes & he has a magnificent soul, and am very proud of him.
Hahaha..yeah he got me too while I was sleeping (obviously, I didn't know till I saw this one =p)

this was our dinner before we had this cute mini privacy photoshoots..lol. Yes, the man can cook! It was such a delight watching him make this yummy meal. Makes him even more sexier...(wink wink*)
And this is mine, I made some homemade Buffalo wings, my version of course.
It goes well with my langga Junebug's Vegie Au gratin...perfect, just perfect.

Ways to look fabulous in photos!
Are you like me sometimes I don't have the patience to browse over the internet because am just stuck to one thing (e.g. Twitter, blogging...posting photos...). Well fortunately, am currently working at a publishing company called Harlequin Silhouettes here in New York City for just a couple of days manning the reception.
But oh well, if its not for me, it's definitely not for me. But anyhoo, let's cut to the chase.
Here's what I've found that could easily benefit me and am sharing it with you my lovely friends.

Cheese is great on pizza, but for pictures, say "money." "The strong e sound makes the corners of your mouth go up," says Patti Wood. "And the crinkles around your eyes make it look like a genuine smile."
Don't Sweat It
While it's nice to have a subtle glow to your skin, too much shine can be distracting, says Troy Jensen, who recommends applying a matte finishing product, like Clinique Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector. "Run it on the side of your nose, forehead and chin. It neutralizes shine instantly without feeling goopy." Clinique Pore Minimizer Instant Perfector in Invisible Light, $18; clinique.com.
Seek Out the Sunset
Dusk is the best time of day for outdoor pictures. "The lighting is really flattering," says Jack Guy. "The sun casts less shadow downward, so you don't end up with bags under your eyes in the photo. Instead, it lights up the area under the eyes and you look younger."

Hope this little tricks can help...lol. at least something I gotta do (so as not to BORE myself to death! lol.)..well guess what? It's perfect! It's almost my break! gotta go and look for those books and send one or two or more to Rawkgrrl!!! woot woot!
And since its the holidays, basically and obviously the whole office is like a ghost town and the phones are dead. So even the Assistant editor and all around manager told me, please do not hesitate to use the internet or do something, read a book or whatever to keep you busy as long as you can still answer the phones, hit the button to open and close the door, call the mailperson if there is mail and that would be it. Early wednesday blog.
Today was quite a bit good for me and my langga^ (FYI langga^ is a Filipino dialect: Ilonggo to be exact for Love or dearest) went out in West 103rd Broadway to meet and pick up his 2 sets of turntables for his vinyl records (obviously). It was pretty heavy but we managed to get it in safely in our apartment.
Here's how it looks like. and here's another one:
hehehe...we have to have another huge and heavy table for this turntables...
here's my personal musician/dj doing his music. Ain't he uber cute? LOL.
and here's moi. Yeah, lost weight and still losing without counting the calories.
I learned that, the more you are conscious about anything the more you are most likely not to achieve what you really want. The best thing would be is to just consistently slowly eat and enjoy your food, take a daily walk or just move around (doing household chores are great exercise!), drink lots of water and of course no matter what you do, just be happy of who you are. Nothing is better than just comparing yourself to another because it just won't work.
In another note...
Christmas is approaching, but you know what? It is just another one of those pagan rituals that the catholic church made up. If you come to think of it, who really knows what happened.
You can judge me all you want, you hypocrites, just bear in mind that whatever you do in this earth is only temporary and no religion can save you.

Me, right after I slipped and fell really hard on my ass, sprained my ankle and almost broke my wrist just trying to save my darn camera and lens. Yeah, note to self: must not wear rubber flipflops during "snowstorm"and must not run because of wet and slippery floors, thusly make me suffer a little bit of pain!
Yeah, this is the first image that I took right after I managed to stand and walk on my feet, and guess who that is? LOL. My langga^ having his cig outside our building. LOL.

Okay..we really thought it's gonna be that bad. But its not actually, people just panicked like its the end of the world! When I picked up Langga^ at the bus station, people who were supposed to travel this weekend were all stranded because of the so called snowstorm. Guess, its better to be safe than sorry. But sheessh c'mon...its winter and obviously there's gonna be a snow whether we like it or not! It's the weather for fucking crying out loud!

I'm also the make up artist and hair stylist and stylist..rolled into one. LOL, no budget for that yet, but soon it will come!

music = inspiration
All I cay say today is all about spending "quality" time with the one you love and adore. I can't stress enough how much it means to me and how I value the person that I love more than anything else in this world.
Yes, we do have all the great loves in our lives that has gone and past by for all the wrong or right reasons. But we may somehow realize that part of those great loves makes us great lovers in the end. We learn how to become better persons and if not we can always live and learn about our past mistakes and vowed not to do it again (as much as possible.
I must confess, I have fallen in love so many times that I thought my life would shatter if I ever lose them from my sight or out of my life. I was completely wrong. I have gained so much confidence in myself knowing that I can stand on my own no matter what and I have to do it...come what may. We were born alone, we die alone. You have to depend on yourself to get through another day and do your best to stand for the rest of the coming days.
And I have seen through my lover's eyes, how deep our connection and how much we have felt each other's love, the understanding and the passion that moves us. We are now holding each other's hearts with careful undertaking and treading the path of uncertainty but hoping for the best for eternity.
Society will question and will put a damper to our hopes but nevertheless would never damper our souls because it has intertwined long before we even met. The doubts are always there, but it's the trust that would hold us like glue and the laughter will make our sorrows brighter and the problems will make us wiser and stronger facing the battle of any kind of difficulties and strife of life.
I've always been a romantic and I am not ashamed to admit that. You can also call me a dreamer, but that's what dreams are made of. It is up for us to make it real. We have to believe that someday,somehow we will make it REAL.
I almost forgot that I was a dreamer. I almost gave up on love. And if I did, I would've not met the man who showed me that I am a woman. He brought me his music, shared to me his love that I could not even fathom. His music was my inspiration to go back to my first love: my art. He was involved in all of my projects since day one we became together and pushed me to be more productive and use my creativity and skills to work.
Oh my...I can keep on going and going and going about this things and I will not stop adoring this man. If there's one thing I can say to summarize this blog is...when a music inspires you, go with the flow, let it flow through your veins and you will see the effect that shows through your work and your passion.
That's how it affected me and this is why I came back to blogging and everything that I had left behind in the past. Thank you my June Bug....this one's for ya! xxxx.

CONNECTION.
Oh hells yeah!
Now that we're finally hooked up with the internet, there is so much things to do and a lot of creativity and lots of fun has begun! No more waiting for each other to finish up whatever we are doing in the internet, and no more trying to maintain a certain bandwidth or else were goin' to pay more than we expected. But you know what? it's okay, it was well worth it.
It actually bought some time for my langga^ to do his work while we are waiting for the real high speed internet to surface in our room and it worked like magic. Although at times it gave us some little bit of difficulties and some minor issues like dropping a signal, nevertheless it still gave us the connection that could sustain us for awhile.
And now I can focus on my projects such as: my blogs, my photography, my art while i listen to my langga Huney's music to inspire me and now that I also gave him one of my cameras to practice with...i got him hooked into photography which is SWEEEEETTT!!! Now, I have my own photobuddy that i can relate to and share the passion with me and I wouldn't ask for anything more!
I made some uploads on my other blog which is solely for my photos. So feel free to browse and leave me some comments (if you'd like =p).And my lazy bone has gone away for a bit and let me worked on the things that I think I have completely forgotten and just wanted to procastinate all the time which is not the case this time. I want to make sure by the end of the day I would have somehow created something productive that I have not done for the last months or so and I'm VERY EXCITED about it!!! woot! woot!

HAH! am back!
HAHHH!!! yes, am back to blogging again, since I deleted my facebook account and just trying to maintain my twitter update status is all that matters to me now. Okay, fine since my last update here is like what since August is considered like super eons ago...its okay i don't mind at all. As a matter of fact it won't stop me from doing so.
My main purpose of this blog anyway is not only for those who want to read it or who don't have the time to do so, is for me not to only vent out my frustrations but to also try to practice my writing skills..(hrhrhrhhr yeah right.)
Okay, i must admit i've got another blog account and the other brand new spanking new one that i just created a couple of days ago..i guess i just have to pick which one that I have to use permanently and so that others won't get confused with the accounts that I am using.
Anyways, am finally settled although not totally yet, but way better than the last few months. Considering those of you who think that I've gone crazy and ballistic about my current situation or I must have gone off the face of the earth by not saying anything about what's happening in my life right now (which is absolutely none of anybody's business btw...rhrhrhhrhrh).
That's why it was such a relief to delete my facebook account and it made me realize that by detaching yourself from the social networking such as facebook will actually make your life so peaceful and drama free! Although I still have my twitter but you know what, its not as the same as facebook. All you have to do is just update your status and it will just pass by and no one really cares what you are talking about and vis-a-vis because all twitters do there is vent out or just blabbing on anything which is actually NOT BADDDDD! unless, you are really trying to make a statement on something or to somebody or intentionally wanting to destroy someone (but then again that's a different story).
Okay, i guess now am venting it out. Enuff said.
Where I am right now, am in our lovely, cozy private room in Spanish Harlem and we are totally in love with the neighborhood. Everything is convenient, easy access to most of everything that you need and very easy commute to the city (back and forth even on weekends and holidays), safe and very welcoming.
So lively and everyone seemed so bright and cheerful. Not unlike what we used to live before and that's gonna be another part of the blog next time. LOL. I don't know..should i still keep this one and the other one and the other new one? lol. I really wanted to make a nice photoblog with just the photos alone and this one is sort of a mix of everything..the other old one should just stay put. Ahahaha.
Wow, so there ya go. My first post for the last month of November which is ironic because its gonna be december 1st tomorrow. Ya get it? hrhrhrh if ya don't just fuhgeddaboutit. Oh yaah..am not in Brooklyn anymore!!! WOOT! WOOT!!!

things happen for a reason
Yes quite indeed!
After my being incognito these past few months were considerably understood by many (I do hope so) and its been a hell of a roller coaster ride!
So much so, my search has reached its path and my journey has yet begun to unfold before me.
I therefore conclude..that life has a lot of surprises in store for me and a new beginning to face NEW challenges.
As 2009 breaks its new shell..here I am welcoming it with open arms and ready to face another battle!

backlogs and more.
and here's why.
I fell in love with KNITTING. Thusly, the chaos it has created!
Am doing the multi-tasking, paying bills online, talking to perspective drivers for our business, organizing my HD and a conference call between my sister in vegas and her friend needs help on how to make a resume` and I have to make that one PRONTO! So that at least i'll had it off my back!
Last week, was even worse..had to go the doctor for a regular visit, went to New Jersey to visit carey's mommy and poppy with his siblings (his sister, brother and sister in law)had a little shopping spree for the home, bought a nice little sweater for myself and two working sweat pants for my man and the rest is all about home! LOL.
We were surprised despite the economic crisis, people still are rounding up the alley and barge in the shopping malls,just like us! wahahahahah...
Ate at a chinese buffet for lunch (waited in line for an hour, don't ask me why) was starving to death, almost squeezed the lady's neck bone dry because I was too impatient to wait. I even told them why of all places should we wait for a freaking one hour wait, and we got old folks with us (carey's parents).
Now, am back..hopefully will try to do the best I can to be active in the world of internet, my 365 FOODIES has been backed up already, so I need to get on my saddle horse and giddy up!
